Fish oils have excessive amounts of EPA.
Excessive EPA(omega3) is highly suppressive of (GLA, DGLA, AA) (omega6)
    Eat seafood.
    Do fatty acids analysis.
Fatty Acid Profile, Comprehensive (C8-C26), Serum
Be highly careful of eating stuff that have parental fatty acids, ALA and LA.
Humans theoretically convert them to (desirable) AA and DHA, but not in practice.
In practice they keep collecting and clouding situation.
In practice, many fatty acids analysis of index type, do not distinguish between variety of fatty acids, they just go by more general category. They do not distinguish between ALA and DHA. For them EPA and DHA looks the same.
Similar to getting as a payment 20 bills and not specifying value of each bill.
    Instead of 20*100=$2000
    you are getting 20*1=$20

I have proof (for my self) that above is correct, other than reading what Patricia Kane says, I did my fatty acids analysis.

    /////

There is also a question about how the DHA that eventually makes its way thru,
    is attached to glycerol head.
It can be done in three different ways, sn1, sn2, sn3.
The only one that counts is sn2.

There is already (in Israel) company that makes fish oils in such a way as to maximize the sn2.

I don't believe Fish Oil or omega 3 is bad for one Jan keeps posting this but he is the only one out there saying this. Both of my Dr.'s say it's a must for my heart. As you all know I had heart bypass surgery but the blockages were cought before I had a heart attack so my heart is not damaged.

I find even getting Fish Oil with a script from my Dr. the oil is bad you just can't find true Fish Oil with omega 3 in it. All the fishing boats off shore are grinding up the junk fish they use to pitch back into the Sea and selling as Omega 3 Fish Oil.

So I use Krill Oil capliques 500 mgs. 1 with food morning from mercola.com. I can tell the diff. when I stop taking this I don't feel as good off it.

Haha jansz is taking about a fast organic chemistry sn2 reaction. I like it. Jansz where did you get the fatty acid analysis done and how much was it? I take it insurance wouldn't cover that? Can you pm me results so I can see what to expect? I definitely want that done to make sure my delta desaturase enzymes are working properly.

    Look this thread over:

Tests done by LabCorp. I have newer tests but not in format that I could post.
See the spreadsheet I created for fatty acids following Patricia Kane phd

Look up my old fatty acids analysis from Genova:
    http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5059/image163x.jpg
on second page they list supplements that they suggest to improve on
    Delta-6-desaturase
    Elongase
    Delta-5-desaturase
    and combinations

Good to know, obviously, but then you have other reasons to look for supplements
    steroid hormone
    thyroid hormones

So, I am not chasing bits and pieces anymore.
    I just do
    Spectracell Micronutrient Analysis
    and
I am covered for all of that.

Many doctors can make a living for many decades guessing each supplement individually and newer get it close enough.
And they do it now as a one panel.
    Robots are taking over.

...most folks are taking fish oil to help balance out their Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratios. In doing that, you're always going to be exposed to the good and bad side of fish oil supplementation.

A better solution perhaps, just be more mindful of your actual Omega-6 intake. So less of the CAFO meat --> especially pork and poultry. Less of the nuts, store-brand salad dressings, mayonnaise, and/or vegetable oils.
Steer clear of any/all commercial baked goods/snacks.

So less Omega-6 = less inflammation = less of a need for supplementing the 'potentially' problem causing fish oil

Not sure how this is going to work.

Having excess of EPA guarantees suppression of omega6.
That argue for more chicken and salad dressings and vegetable oils.

This is called havoc and chaos.

...I don't understand you at all. We should be eating less (or no) chicken, salad dressings and/or vegetable oils.

There is no havoc or chaos in eating less chicken with mayonnaise.

Less of that stuff = less Omega 6 = less inflammation = less of a need for taking fish oil --> which is taken to combat the inflammatory effects of Omega 6

Please clarify what you're trying to say.

    hebsie,
you are trying to justify use of fish oils,
    accommodate excessive EPA levels.

There is a campaign of fish oil industry to use their product, but
nobody is forcing anybody to use excessive EPA.

...you are reading only what you think you're seeing ... again

I am saying no to fish oil. Seriously, where in this thread did I try and justify the use of fish oils?????

I am saying to stop over-consuming Omega-6 oils.

I am saying to forget about consuming these NASTY fish oil supplements (Omega-3), just to try and balance out an over-consumption of Omega-6.

So once again Jansz. Don't eat excess Omega-6 and you don't need try and counter-balance with excessive amounts of Omega-3.

How am I not being clear?????? You can really be quite frustrating some days!

What are some alternatives to seafood and fish oil for EPA/DHA (especially DHA for brain health). Walnuts?

The first time I heard about Omega-3 was from Dr. Weil's book yrs. ago and to this day I still feel he is right on this. He said we use to get Omega-3 from the beef we ate that ate grass that was full of Omega-3.
So he said we don't get Omega-3 from beef anymore they are penned up and fed grain.
    http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART03050/Fish-Oil-Omega-3-Dr-Weil.html
He also says the Exkimo's live off fish full of Omega-3 and are very healthy.
    https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Dr.+Weil++excessive+amounts+of+EPA.&ei=AE0dVfHtMoelgwSFjoHACg
I just don't buy this that good Fish Oil or Krill oil is bad for us.

Just do your Fatty Acids Analysis.
And I mean Fatty Acids Analysis not some kind of indexes.

People are obfuscating the issue by using vague descriptions.
We need DHA but we are taking EPA instead.
    Then it gets cloudy.
This is like saying you need testosterone, well I will give you estradiol instead, they are both steroid hormones.

so eating seafood is still better alternative than taking fish oil even if it would be farm raised? seafood i mean.
can't you just take DHA? well supplement that contains mostly DHA.

They provide alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is the precursor to EPA and DHA.

Remember when I said that there is theory and there is practice.
If what you are saying was happening in practice, we would make tons of DHA from the abundance of EPA that there is from fish/krill oils.
    But that is not happening.

Seafood from the dirties and radioactive water, raised on a Chinese farm, is still better than the best grass fed beef (2015 vintage).

    =========
I am still not clear on DHA vegetable source.
Personally I eat one/day vegetarian DHA from Source Naturals.
I will re-asses after my next fatty acids test and post my opinion.
    =========

There is opinion, just unsupported opinion.
Forget or discount the fact that humans lost 300grams of brain mass since inventing agriculture, 15000years ago.
    Deal with more recent time.
Electricity was invented in 1900, say to make even numbers, 115 years ago.
Beef, chicken, pork, goats had (assume) just enough DHA to support human brain.
    If,
we could eat today (beef, chicken, pork, goats) of 1900 vintage, we would still be missing on DHA.
    WHY?
We need to deal with destructive technology that:
produces new EMF, newer seen before
    produces new light patterns
    and destroys DHA

Extra helping of seafood is supposed to be big enough to cover
missing DHA in today's (beef, chicken, pork, goats)
plus additional portion to account for non-native EMF

new light patterns are mostly uncorrectable
so, take a pay cut and move from 3rd shift to 1st, preferably working outside.
