Nope switch is working fine as shown by you being up and running. More likely high winds have shorted high voltage across your downed regular voltage lines. The surge blew the breakers and saved your house while the generator was starting and or switching. In high winds power flickers/comes and goes. Breakers protect the house from the resulting surges the switch only kicks over when there is no current coming in and cuts out whn power reoccurs. First bad storm on mine we took such a surge it literallly melted the auto switch internals and we couldn't get back on the grid when it came up until I got a replacement switch and electrician...took three weeks but my generator on nat gas ran the entire house and the melted inards and blown breakers kept us safe that night....now I have a manual switch to override the auto and anither master breaker

    Hello Sandy,
Life is good when generator works.
Lots of downed trees around, no power.
Everybody with long enough extension cord are welcome.
So far helped 5 nearby stranglers.
Everybody swears to buy that kind generator for future.

I think this generator have made me some friends.

    Life is good.
Well, no internet, no tv, just beer and liquor instead

My son got me his smart phone for little bit, so I could have internet.

    Hold one tight.

Sandy took down my tree. Now I have a hole in the ground.
I would like to plant there Pampas grass. If I can swing it, pink Pampas Grass.
My zip code is 07054 (to figure USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map)
    http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/
    Zone 6b : -5 to 0 (F)
    -------------------------------------------------------------
I like Pampas Grass because of white (or pink) plumes 3-4 ft. long above foliage
In my neighborhood I see similar grasses by with puny plumes, I would not care having that if I could hold on to Pampas.

What are my chances that the grass survives, recommended coldest zone is:
    Zone 7 (5F to 10F )

I live over 30 years in my place, and agree with this map:
    http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/07054
    Lowest temperature +18F=~-8C
    =================================================================

I would like to have a one bunch about 5 feet dia,
they are selling 3 galons plants, how many should I get?

Have anyone experience with Pink Pampas Grass planted little north of their designated zone?

The first time I saw people growing it in their gardens was when I lived in Germany, at about the same latitude as Montreal.

Growing up in western New York, which probably has winters about like New Jersey (possibly even colder and snowier) I never once saw it in anybody's garden. Since it is only hardy to zones 7-8, I wonder if what I saw in Germany was another grass that resembled pampas grass.

Here in California, it is considered an invasive species and people are discouraged from growing it. Even though it is considered a weed here, I still like it.

How to use computer when on the road,
    internet connection via hot spots,
accessing my bank accounts or broker's accounts?

Similarly, making payments with credit cards to random merchants.

Just once, to schedule the payments. After that, the payments are automatically made.

This is not about recurring payments.

For over a month I am planning to be on the road.
Most of my financial transactions I do using home computer.

How to be a road warrior?

I have only very basic cell phone.

My son have a cell phone with internet service so he can use computer via internet from cell phone.
This is not my life style, then there is expense and learning curve.

Within a month I need to pay number of credit cards, otherwise they will charge interest.

Usually within a month I will buy/sell some stocks.
It is not easy to be without secure internet connection this days.
