    Default Shbg

So, I am a little confused. I had high SHBG but low e2. Is this correct? I thought that if e2 is low then shbg would be also.

Also, can high SHBG keep one from losing weight?

Can low e2 keep one from losing weight?

    Please clarify.

    Thanks all!

Men with low Testosterone can have very low E2 levels and High SHBG are you on TRT.

High E2 is just one of the many reasons SHBG may be high.

starvation and malfunctoining liver from toxins or thyroid are primary cause
    NASH is another one.

Yes, I am on TRT with Dr. John.

My total T was 900 or so on the 6th day. E2 was very low. This is why I am concerned.

    I havent checked thyroid yet.

    Hardasnails,

could high SHBG cause a resistance of the body to want to lose weight? Thanks

With high shbg one needs more testosterone then normal which is going to push estrodial and dht up as well. With higher shbg you could use more e2 then normal. Guys SHBG we like to see at 1000-1100 on the trough to get a mid to upper bio T provided other things are all tuned up.

Ok, so that makes sense then. That is why Dr. John wants to lower my arimidex dose to bring e2 up a little and hopefully bring SHBG down a bit. Is this correct reasoning? Thanks

One should not look specifically at SHBG. raising e2 will not lower SHBG. SHBG is hormones that indicate mainly other areas. If you are on thyroid then this can affect as well as malabsorption, low protein content, and fat issues.
Shbg is actually I found high in some people that smoke or have done drugs in the past because liver is malfunctioning. I am going to experiment with a hypothesis on lower SHBG based up on treatment for handling cirrohosis on the liver.

Well I never have done drugs or smoke. I have an occasional glass of wine with meals but that is it. I would have to imagine my liver is faiirly clean.

I am on thyroid and we havent check that just yet. But I am thinking that if I am high then that could cause SHBG to go up.

I do perform intermittent fasting on a daily basis not sure if this could be taken by the body as starvation?

I take in roughly 250-275 grams of protein per day so no deficiency there.

Taking in protein and absorping it is 2 seperate entities.
People with thyroid issues have slow digestion system and lack proper ability to digest food.

Just thyroid meds in general can raise shbg as in certain people because it alters liver metabolism of specific cytochrome p450 pathways ..why or how I do not know.

Sam-e is the best liver cleanser and has many other function as well. People that workout should be on it as it helps in so many other aspects. Start slow and workout to 200 mgs 2 times a day and it should help alot. I also use it to help people with depression who can not tolerate SSRI's either.
